Matthew Newman: The Big Bike Giveaway
December 31, 2018
Matthew Newman doesn’t want any of his experiences to go to waste. His hard times are turned into learning experiences and his successes are opportunities to give back to the community. For 2017, that opportunity took the shape of ten bicycles and ten happy fifth graders.
With the bodies of civilians and police officers mounting in the streets and the growing rhetoric, animosity and war of words exchanged in social media causing more separation, one former Fort Bend County man now living in Dallas said he had to do something to spark change.
“All this blood in the streets is red. Enough,” said organizer Matthew Newman.
2015 was a good year for Matthew Newman. The Dallas entrepreneur decided to give back today by hosting a catered lunch for the residents of Tent City, a sprawling homeless encampment under the I-45 freeway in downtown Dallas.
Each Monday, Matthew Newman of My Lawn Mower & Me says peels of bananas, oranges, potatoes, onions and others food scraps are picked up and delivered directly to community gardens in Pleasant Grove, West Dallas, and most recently the WE Over ME Farm at Paul Quinn College to begin the composting process.
At the beginning of March, Lakewood neighbor Matthew Newman, with My Lawn Mower & Me, partnering with Liberty Burger and For the Life of You to launch the East Dallas initiative From the Dinner Table to the Front Lawn.
